How many chicks have hatched?

Yesterday, just as the final children were leaving nursery, a magical moment began to unfold. One child paused and said she could hear a faint “cheep, cheep.” Curious, we gathered around the eggs and noticed one starting to wobble… then crack. We listened closely to the gentle tap, tap, tap from inside - the hatching process had begun.

Soon, more tiny cracks appeared, and before long, a very small, dark chick began to emerge. By the end of the nursery day, we were delighted to welcome two newly hatched chicks into the world.

What a wonderful surprise awaited the children this morning! As they entered the preschool room, they rushed eagerly to check on the eggs - and were amazed to find not two, but six fluffy chicks. Unlike the bright yellow ducklings we have had before, these little ones are beautifully coloured in shades of black and grey.

The chicks have now been carefully moved from the incubator into their hutch, where they are happily cheeping and chirping as they explore their new surroundings. The children have been full of excitement, asking lots of thoughtful questions and watching closely as the chicks begin to grow.

It has been a truly special experience and we look forward to observing and learning together as these tiny chicks continue their journey.
