Sports Day June 2026

On the morning of Wednesday, 17th June, Thorney Island Nursery held its annual Sports Day, and what a fantastic event it was!

This year, alongside the traditional running races, we introduced some exciting new activities for the children to enjoy. We began with a colourful wooden spoon and matching bean bag race, inspired by the classic egg-and-spoon race. The children did an amazing job, carefully balancing their bean bags as they made their way to the finish line. Every child successfully completed the race as part of their allocated team, supported and encouraged by their key worker throughout.

Next came the bean bag balancing race, where the children carefully balanced a bean bag on their heads while making their way across the course. They all showed great concentration and determination, and we were so proud of their efforts.

The standout event of the day was undoubtedly the inflatable hobby horse race! From our youngest children to the parents, everyone had a turn, and it provided plenty of laughter and entertainment. It was wonderful to see everyone joining in and having so much fun together.

The parents also took part in a three-legged race, which proved to be another highlight of the day. Thankfully, there were no injuries, and it was fantastic to see such enthusiastic participation from everyone involved.

To celebrate their efforts, every child received a special Sports Day medal and certificate for participating.

Overall, the day was filled with smiles, laughter, teamwork, and achievement. We would like to thank all the children, parents, and staff who helped make this year's Sports Day such a memorable occasion.
